The Scwibble! story
Artist Lucy Curtis takes your child's, grandchild's, friend's child's drawings - their 'scwibbles' - and creates a unique piece of artwork, memorably capturing childhood's early creativity.
How did Scwibble! start?
I had enjoyed children's mark-making for many years. And I'd been collaborating with my 3 year old on some sculpture when I was asked to donate a piece of work to help raise money for her school. Seeking a way to make an original contribution, I offered to create an artwork based on a child's drawing.
The fundraiser was a success. Suddenly I had friends asking me to create pieces from their children's work. Scwibble! was launched.
Many artists work hard to win the freedom of mind that is natural to a child. It can be a difficult mindset for an adult to achieve. That is why it is so exciting to work with a child's 'scribbles'. The combination of their spontaneous marks and my creative discipline is a fruitful one. And just as each child's drawings are unique, so too is the final piece.
